Today we come to one of the most amazing stories in the book of Mark, the story of the transfiguration of Jesus. The disciples were continuing to struggle in understanding all that Jesus wanted them to understand about Him. So, in Mark chapter 9, we see Jesus taking Peter, James, and John up on a mountain for an encounter they would never forget. This seemed to be a turning point for Peter, James, and John because although they still had much to learn, now they had seen Jesus clearly for who He really was and had a different perspective and a better understanding of how important it was to listen and learn from Jesus.

We've reached the halfway point in the book of Mark in our series, ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero.'' As Pastor Clay is going to explain in this week's message, Jesus is trying to help His disciples understand more fully who He was and His purpose in coming. The disciples didnt want to hear what Jesus had to say because it didnt fit into their idea of how things were supposed to go. Like us, the disciples were going to have to learn that they had to bend their wills to Gods, and not the other way around.

Have you ever known someone that kept making the same mistake over and over again? This week in Mark chapter 8, we find Jesus once again feeding a large number of people with only a few loaves and fish. Sadly, we again find the disciples making the same mistake of not trusting Jesus to meet the need even though they had just seen Him do the same thing just a few months before. Modern followers of Jesus tend to do the same thing but as Pastor Clay explains, Jesus cared too much for the disciples, just as he cares for us today, to not help us get the truth He wants us to know.

As we continue in our series entitled, ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero,'' were going to hear some important truths from Jesus about our hearts. The expression, You are what you eat? may hold some nutritional wisdom but from a spiritual standpoint, nothing could be farther from the truth and as we'll learn today, Jesus teaches his followers that its not so much what goes into our stomachs, but what comes out of our hearts that really makes a man or woman defiled.

Were celebrating Mothers Day this week and if ever somebody was worth celebrating, its our mothers. And mothers, like all of us, can know their share of adversity. Thats why Pastor Clays message today has relevance for mothers, and all of us. As you'll hear today, Jesus sent His disciples out into a storm to teach them a very valuable lesson. Its a lesson that all of us need to learn for our good, and for Gods glory.

Today we're looking at one of the most famous of Jesus' miraculous actions, His feeding of the 5,000. Actually, as Pastor Clay is going to explain, it was really more like 10,000, which makes what Jesus did even more miraculous. The people had come to a deserted place to hang out with Jesus. He was teaching them truths about the kingdom of God and healing the sick. As the day was growing later the disciples urged Jesus to send the people away so they could get something to eat, but as we'll learn today Jesus had a different idea in mind.

Giving our lives to Jesus can bring a life of peace, contentment, joy, forgiveness of our sins, adoption into the family of God and the promise of heaven. But as Pastor Clay is going to share with us in todays message, Jesus told His disciples that if they persecuted Him, then we could expect no less. This week, we find John the Baptist imprisoned for speaking out against sin. It seems like the perfect time for God to demonstrate His power. Its resurrection Sunday or as most of the world knows it, Easter. For more than two thousand years the church has been celebrating this day as the day that Jesus Christ conquered death and rose from the grave. It's not an exaggeration to say that all of Christianity hangs on the resurrection but is it true? Pastor Clay is going to present some arguments today for the resurrection that are hard to ignore.

Jesus has been traveling around to various towns teaching and performing miracles and in Mark chapter 6, we find Jesus making a trip back to His hometown, Nazareth. They had heard about all the things that Jesus was doing, so you would expect that Jesus would be well received in the town where He grew up, but as Pastor Clay is going to explain today, faith isnt always found where you would expect to find it.

Our series Jesus - The Real Action Hero is in Mark chapter 5 this week where we find the story of the encounter of Jesus and a demon-possessed man. It was in a region known as the Gerasenes, an area inhabited mainly by Gentiles, non-Jewish persons. Its not necessarily the place you would expect to find a Jewish Rabbi, but then again Jesus rarely did what people expected. In Matthews account of this story, we know that there were actually two demon-possessed men there that day but as Pastor Clay will explain, Mark focuses on just one of the men, making the point that Jesus came to set me and women free.

Were kicking off a brand new series entitled, Jesus - Action Hero. Its going to be an in-depth study of the book of Mark. Of course each of the Gospel writers recorded the life of Jesus. They each did it from their own unique perspective, and together they provide us with a rich and full picture of our Savior. But as youll hear Pastor Clay say, Mark focuses more on the actions of Jesus. The earthly ministry of Jesus only lasted about three and a half years, but as well see as we make our way through the book of Mark, Jesus accomplished a great deal.
