Modern Family?, Week 3: Ephesians 6 (Part 3)

Soldiers on the battlefield know the importance of their equipment. Boots, helmet, body armor and their weapon, among other things, all contribute to the safety of the soldier and their success in battle. And whats true in physical battle is also true in spiritual battle. In our series ''Modern Family?'' Pastor Clay is taking us to the second half of Ephesians chapter 6 and the Apostle Pauls discussion on the spiritual armor we as followers of Jesus must put on if were going to have victory against our enemy. This week the focus is dress up, by putting on the armor needed to not only defend ourselves against the enemy, but to actually defeat him. The family is under attack, and its up to us to prepare for battle.

The family is under attack in these modern times like never before. Biblically, we know that as we get closer to the end times, our spiritual enemys attacks will increase. How close we are to the last days is a matter of speculation, but what is certain is that the devil is active and working in this world today and our families are on the front lines. Our series ''Modern Family?'' continues as Pastor Clay shows us from Gods word the importance of preparing for battle. Satan is a defeated foe but that doesnt mean that hes not dangerous today. We're kicking off a brand new series entitled: ''Modern Family?'' We live in a world where the very definition of family seems as if it is being rewritten right before our very eyes. But, as were going to discover in this series, God defined what family is and what the roles are for those in the family long ago. What God has to say isnt modern, but it has been the formula for a successful family since the very beginning of creation.

Special: Memorial Day Weekend Message

This weekend our nation is commemorating Memorial Day, a national holiday acknowledging the sacrifice of those who gave their lives so that our nation, and others, could be free. At Cross Culture Church we recognize and give thanks for those who paid for our nation's freedom with their very blood. But we also take the opportunity today to look to Gods word and see an example of a man often over looked, who gave his life, and who can teach us a thing or two about following Jesus. So this week we're taking the chance to show us an example of a follower of Jesus who deserves recognition. His name is Stephen, and the Bible records Stephens death as a result of his bold stand for Jesus. As Pastor Clay is going to point out today, there are a few things we can learn from Stephen about living, and dying for Jesus.

Today we come to the end of our series on marriage entitled, ''Until Death Do Us Part?'' So far Pastor Clay has walked us through the reasons for marriage, the reality of marriage, the romance of marriage, and last week, the responsibilities of marriage. Were nearing the end of our series through the book of Mark entitled ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero.'' Today Pastor Clay is taking us through the last part of chapter 14, where Jesus is on trial by the religious leaders. As Pastor Clay is going to explain, the root of their hatred for Jesus was that they were afraid of Him. It seems hard to comprehend that someone could be afraid of Jesus, the One who loved us enough to die for us. But as youll hear today there are still plenty of people who are afraid of Jesus for the same reason the religious leaders were. And as we'll also discover today, there was someone else there at the trial of Jesus that had his own fears to deal with.

Today in our series Jesus - The Real Action Hero, we come to the story of Jesus and His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. As Pastor Clay is going to explain, were going to see Jesus in a way weve not seen Him before. Were also going to see the disciples at what turns out to be not one of their better moments. When Jesus announces to them that they are all going to turn their backs on Him, well, lets just say the disciples are confident that Jesus is wrong. But, as well see their confidence was misplaced.

The Lords Supper is one of the most important and meaningful acts that a local church conducts. But how much do you know about that first Lords Supper with Jesus and His disciples in the upper room? As we continue our series Jesus - The Real Action Hero, we come to the night before Jesus arrest. Jesus and His disciples were in Jerusalem for the Passover, a celebration of the Jews deliverance from slavery in Egypt. But as they celebrated that occasion, Jesus initiated a new practice that would commemorate the deliverance of all of us from slavery to sin.

What does love look like? That may seem like a strange question, but most of us have probably heard the old saying: ''Love is a verb'' love an action. So, what does love look like? More specifically what does your love for God look like? Today we come to a story in Mark chapter 14 of an extraordinary act of love. Pastor Clay is going to share with us the story of a woman who showed her love for Jesus in a remarkable way. And from her story, we're going to learn a few things about what our love for God should look like.

The End Is Near! Have you ever seen someone holding up a sign with those words on it? Well, the truth is the end may in fact be near. This week, Pastor Clay returns to Chapter 13 of the book of Mark which records Jesus teaching on the end times events, including His return to earth. Pretty much everyone wishes they knew exactly when the end is going to come, and when the return of Jesus Christ will be. But as Pastor Clay is going to explain today, when Jesus returns is not really the point.

Mention the phrase end times and all kinds of questions come up. When will it be? Are we in the last days? What will happen? When it comes to talking about the end times there is no shortage of questions that people have. But, when the Bible talks about end times, is answering those questions really even the point? As we continue our series ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero,'' Pastor Clay is going to explain how answering all of our questions is really not Gods agenda. Jesus teaching on the end times came as a result of His disciples asking Him some questions about when the end would be. The disciples may not have gotten all the answers they wanted, but Jesus teaching was intended to make a different point.

The uncertain world we live in today terrorist attacks, financial upheaval, and public unrest. Are we moving into the end times? Mark chapter 13 records a conversation between Jesus and some of His disciples about signs and events that would lead up to and be a part of the end times. This week, Pastor Clay is taking us further into Mark chapter 13 as we look at verses 14 through 23, an a further description of events that will take place during the tribulation period. To be sure it is going to be a time unlike any the world has experienced.

The end times thats been a pretty popular subject the last few years it seems. Even Hollywood has gotten into the act with several films centered around end time disasters. People are preparing to live off the grid when it all comes crashing down. Everybody seems to have something to say about what it will be like in the last days. We're returning to our series ''Jesus - The Real Action Hero'' and this week we're on Mark Chapter 13. The chapter opens with Jesus making a shocking prediction about the Temple in Jerusalem. That prediction opened the door for Jesus to teach some lessons on the end times. Most of us have lots of questions when it comes to discussing the end of time. I cant think of a better person to learn about it from than Jesus.

As a follower of Jesus we probably understand that there is a difference between happiness as the world knows it, and joy. But we sometimes struggle with understanding how to live in joy in our daily lives. As youll hear this week, Pastor Clay is going to show us from Luke chapter 2 how the birth of the Savior changed everything and made it possible to live in joy.
