“They may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom.” Those words, spoken by Mel Gibson’s character, William Wallace, in the film, Braveheart, is one of the most iconic lines in movie lore. The film is Hollywood’s version of the life of William Wallace, a 13th century commoner who led the fight for Scotland’s independence from England. Freedom is certainly something to be valued.
No one should know that better than the people of God. Our freedom was purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross. He laid down His life to set us free from sin. But, exactly what all does that freedom mean for our lives today?
Today in our series “Crossroads - Where Our Faith Intersects Our Culture,” we’re starting into 1 Corinthians chapter 10, where the Apostle Paul is trying to help the believers in Corinth to understand what freedom means from God’s perspective. Pastor Clay is going to walk us through verses 1-15 today, where we find the Apostle Paul giving us a bit of a history lesson; lessons we learn must apply to our lives, if we’re going to experience freedom the way God intends.
